Amateur Radio License Testing

This page brings an older and important part of the story back to life: the work of helping people get licensed, the club I founded in 2016, and the resources I still trust enough to point people toward today.

A Chapter of Service That Still Matters

For many years, I had the privilege of serving as a Volunteer Examiner and helping others take their first steps into amateur radio.  That work remains one of the most meaningful ways I have ever been able to give back to the hobby.

In September 2016, I founded the Aurora Amateur Radio Group.  I led the club until May 2023, when I stepped away in order to focus more fully on my personal health.  Even so, the club is still alive and doing well, and I remain deeply grateful for what it grew into and for the people who continue that work.

Remote Testing

Although I am no longer actively serving as a Volunteer Examiner, nor overseeing a club doing license testing, I am still very glad to recommend the club I started: the Aurora Amateur Radio Group.  Through the training, standards, dedication, and commitment to quality that shaped the club from the beginning, I have real confidence that those who test with them will be treated exceptionally well.

You can learn more about AARG’s remote testing program by visiting their website here: aarg.club.  If you do reach out to them, you are welcome to let them know you were referred by the founder of their club.

In-Person Testing in Aroostook County

If you live in Aroostook County and prefer to test in person, the Aroostook Amateur Radio Association (K1FS), based in Presque Isle, offers free testing through Laurel VEC.  You can visit the club website at k1fs.org or check the VE team page at larc-vec.org.

Practice Exams

If you are interested in taking practice exams, the platform I co-develop is freely available for use: Wireless Exam Gen.  It remains one more way of helping prospective operators prepare well before exam day arrives.

A Personal Word

I may no longer be directly administering exams, but I have not stopped caring about the people who are trying to enter the hobby or move forward in it.  Helping others find the right path into amateur radio still matters to me, and this page remains here because I want people to have a clear and trustworthy starting point.
